nheuser family history:
The Paul Anheuser wine estate is part of a long family tradition that dates back to the 30 Year War (1618-1648). In 1627, a vintner named "Anheuser" is known to have been a citizen of Bad Kreuznach.

In 1842, two brothers of the 10th family generation emigrated to America. One of the brothers, Eberhard Anheuser, founded a brewery in St. Louis, Missouri, which later became Anheuser-Busch, the largest brewery in the world today.

Eberhard's nephew, Rudolf Anheuser, expanded his possessions beyond the town limits of Bad Kreuznach. He added choise vineyards with exceptional soil quality and ideal micro-climate in the Nahe Valley towns of Monzingen, Schlossboeckelheim, Niederhausen, Norheim, Roxheim and Altenbamberg.

s one of the pioneer vintners of the Nahe Region, Rudolf Anheuser envisioned the noble character of the pure Riesling variety wine. Most important to him, vintage early in the year following the harvest, while it adequate time for the wine to age in the bottle. His process resulted in smooth and refreshing wines.
Marketing of bottled wine started with great success at the Rudolf Anheusersche Weingutsverwaltung. The winery on Stromberger Strasse and the family residence on Hofgarten Strasse, were added in 1915.
Rudolf's youngest son, Paul Anheuser, took over the estate and further improved the quality of the dry wines. His vision of the future and knowledge of his customer's preferences proved the wisdom of his decision.

Paul's son, Rudolf "Peter" Anheuser, has managed the winery since 1969 as the 13th generation of the Anheuser family. He and his wife Dorothee (nee Rilling) have expanded the market for "Paul Anheuser Wine" worldwide.

The 14th generation is currently preparing to continue the long-standing family tradition. Rudolf Anheuser III will eventually take over the reins of the family business after completing his studies at the renowned School for Enology and Viticulture at Geisenheim on the Rhine.
